Learn to make easy no-sew fleece scarves that are perfect for Christmas Gifts.

Easy fleece scarves for all!  I teach fourth grade and every year I am faced with the same question, “What do I get my class for Christmas?”  Well, being the crafty lady that I am, I always answer with a loud, “DIY something!!!”  These fleece scarves meet all the requirements on my teacher gift checklist.

  • Must to be inexpensive
  • Needs to be quick
  • Level 10 awesome factor

These scarves are not just for the classroom. They are perfect for all of your loved ones [Insert Teenage Friends Here].  These scarves are also perfect for teenagers because, honestly, they love anything that is like a blanket!

Why Fleece?

Fleece is a perfect fabric for this scarf project because it does not fray.  You cut it with scissors and BOOM! Done!  I made a batch of 40 scarves for my class in less than 30 minutes.  Also, this project is incredibly cost effective.  I purchased the fleece for this project during Joann’s Saturday after Black Friday sale at 70% off, making these scarves about $1 each!  Check, Check, Check!!!

Steps to making a Easy Fleece Scarf

Supplies Needed:

        Fleece (as needed)

        Fabric Scissors

        Rotary Cutter (optional)

        Tulle, String or Ribbon

        Cutting Mat (Optional)

Steps:

  1. Buy fleece in your desired pattern.  Request to have the fabric cut into 1/2 yard sections.  This will allow you to cut three six inch scarves for each 1/2 yard.
  2. Lay the fleece on a flat surface and match the ends and the sides.
  3. Trim off the rough ends of the fabric.
  4. Cut the fleece into 6 inch strips.
  5. Snip about 10-2 inch long fringe pieces on the ends of each short side of the fleece scarf.
  6. Roll the scarf into a burrito-like bundle and secure with string or tulle.
  7. Add a Tag!  DONE!
Need a tutorial!  No problem!

The video shows how to create a student size scarf that is 6 inches wide by 58 inches long, but the process works for any of the scarf dimensions below.

Alternate Fleece Scarf Sizes

  • Kid size: 6″ wide by 58″ long =3 scarves per 1/2 yard of fleece
  • Teen/adult size: 9 inches wide by 59 inches long = 2 scarves per 1/2 yard of fleece
  • Blanket-style size: 18 inches wide by 59 inches long=1 scarf per 1/2 yard of fleece
